CEA

Question: 4 year survivor of rectal cancer. Dx at 42 with stage IIIc rectal cancer. Had total protocolectomy. My CEA has always been .8. The last three CEAs have been .8, .9, 1.1. I am concerned with the rise. My doc says not to worry-seriously! I'm terrified. Is this a cause for concern?

CEA Results

I am newly diagnosed with advance Stage IV colorectal cancer. I am currently on my fourth round of FOLFOX and was wondering how my CEA results compare to others. My first CEA blood test was over 48 and has since declined to 27 then to 23.5 and I was wondering how this compares to others. My onc seemed pleased with the first drop but a little concerned that the third test didn't show a better resul

Can Infection Affect CEA Results

Does anyone know if an infection can cause your CEA to rise? I am in a NED period and had my last PET scan about a month ago and it revealed no activity. I am battling a sinus infection but I don't see how that could influence a blood test. My CEA went up from 3.8 to 6.1. Not a huge jump but certainly something that has caused me concern. I know that CEA tests are not the most reliable but the res

CEA doubled

Yesterday was a hard day. I had chemo and got my CEA results from my previous treatment, the number increased. That was after my 3rd round of Folfox with Avastin. I already failed to see results from Folfiri. I am trying to keep my faith going strong, but this is discouraging. I am afraid of what is next if it is not working. Has anyone here been stage iv and find treatment that worked when the f

Treating cancer

When a person with colon or colorectal cancer is being treated, what blood tests need to be done to find out if the disease is slowing down or if the medicines are working? We had gone for CEA serum and it has gone remarkably high.. So does it mean that the treatment is not working?

Cologuard Report Says My Cancer Has Returned

Has anyone had any experience with using Cologuard? I had colon cancer in 2006. My cancer had gone through the wall. Lymph nodes were cancer free according to tests, so although my oncologist wanted me to take chemo, I did not for fear of the effects from Chemo. Over the past six years my CEA was around 1, and was 1.9 two weeks ago, but I don't know if that is totally reliable. The lab wor

Bispecific and trispecific antibodies are a big thing in cancer

They were first created almost 50 years ago, just recently became very promising in cancer therapy. First trispecific antibody, catumaxomab, was approved by European Union in 2009. It targeted EpCam surface protein on cancer cells and cd3 (activating) receptor on T cells. The third part of the antibody was binding to macrophages. It was effective against EpCam expressing cancer cells, but had se

My son is 28 with stage 4 rectal/colon cancer

My son, he's 28, was diagnosed in September 2019 with stage 4 rectal cancer, the tumor was on the border to the colon so they are treating it as colon. It has spread to 22 of 37 lymph notes and the cancer had spread to the region also. He had surgery 3 days later that removed all the tumor, the 37 lymph notes I mentioned, and removed the "weird" area in the region that was also cancer on his

How accurate is CT or PET at seeing colon cancer?

Hello,I'm wondering how successful PET scan sees colon cancer in the colon? I had one in May, and recall the radiologist noted he could see a lot of backed up stool (I have been constipated for about 6 months-- never had this issue before). Would a tumor be seen with stool in the way on a PET scan? I also did an abdominal CT in June and drank the drink beforehand, which seemed to flush m

What are You Doing to Prevent Colorectal Cancer?

Recently there have been a couple of stories that have hit the media with some sensationalism: "Study Shows Chocolate Prevents Colon Cancer" "Yerba Mate Tea May Prevent Colon Cancer" These stories seem to hit about every couple of weeks and spread like wildfire from the news to blogs to Twitter. Sometimes they even show up on Inspire! The problem is that they often are based on either v

Using regorafenib (Stivarga)

I have late stage 4 colorectal cancer. I have been in treatment since Feb 2010. Palliative care is what we are focusing on as there are few new options for me. Then the regorafenib clinical trial was released to provide compassionate relief. I attempted to be involved with that part of the program but a factor in my bloodwork was too high and they wouldn't take me. This was during September 2012 a

Adenocarcinoma Stage III B

Hi, I am new to this support group. And see many of you seeking help by talking to each other - which is a good thing. My Mom was diagnosed of Adenocarcinoma Stage IIIB. She has only 1 lymph node affected (T3 M0 N1) -- AJCC grading. We started her on Xelox adjuvant chemo during 1st week of Jan 2013 after 3-4 weeks of recovery from surgery. For the first 3 cycles of chemo, she was good -
