Jerome's Best Seat in the House Contest

A wrestling book that successfully stirred up emotions and controversy, only ultimately fell flat because of a lack of proofreading.

Anyone who has been on the Geekiverse for longer than 20 minutes knows I love wrestling, and love reading books about wrestling. I absolutely loved Daniel Bryan'sCrazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules. Daniel Bryan has always been a favorite wrestler of mine, so it was cracking to read how he overcame then much random arduousness. And AJ Lee prepare the wrestling world on fire so quickly, just to disappear while on top. Hearing her very personal story about mental illness brought me to tears several times. So, when I heard Justin Roberts wrote a book, I hit the buy at present button on Amazon.

Justin Roberts was a long-fourth dimension band journalist for WWE. To exist honest, I don't remember when he left. Later reading his book, you lot kind of understand why. He's groundwork noise. I remember him specifically when he introduced The Rock equally the host of Wrestlemania, and I remember some of his prominent announcements of superstars before big matches, but he's heard more than he's seen. I had to think hard as to when he actually left. That being said, he was a staple of the company for years! So when I read on Reddit that his book was stirring up some emotions amongst fans, I thought it was fourth dimension to flip through the pages and encounter exactly what he brought to the squared circle.

He does bring upward some controversial topics. This volume made me question if I would ever truly want to work for WWE, which would exist a definite dream of mine someday (even though I've been critical of the visitor in podcasts, Youtube and several other Geekiverse medium). This is a story of a truly conflicted private who obtained his dream, just to realize it may not be all that slap-up. I can sympathize with him, considering we've all been there. Wanted something and then badly, and then be let down. It's soul crushing. And so I can capeesh the fact that Justin Roberts let us into his world throughout his life and career as a WWE talent.

My biggest issue isn't with the content, just rather the writing itself. It'south written from Justin's voice. That's fine. I think he would exist a great person to talk to and hang out with based on this. Notwithstanding, this book is repetitive. However, this book is repetitive. All the same, this book is repetitive. Empathize? At that place are more than a few times when I felt like I read the aforementioned sentence in one chapter, and that same line was lifted and place in another chapter 30 pages later on. And then 60 pages afterwards. And then at the end. Information technology's like that guy who starts telling you a story, and never realizes y'all were there when information technology happened, and you lot've heard him say that story 4 times already at different parties. I got it. Movement on.

Justin admittedly is a huge fan, and despite my personal feelings about him stalking out wrestlers and performers (it just seems weird to me that he would stalk out hotels to run into these guys), I can appreciate his tenacity to get what he wants. His dream was WWE, and he called them relentlessly to make it happen. Nonetheless, I wish he would have prepared for this volume as much every bit he prepared for goggle box when he was announcing WWE shows.

FINAL SCORE: 6/10

Mayhap I'm being hyper-critical considering of the repetition, just information technology truly made it difficult to get through at some points. Notwithstanding, wrestling fans would definitely capeesh the stories and the behind the scenes moments that we typically are not privy too unless WWE wants the states to be.

+ Great behind the scenes content

+ Written in a voice that makes the author relatable

– Too many repetitive sentences and themes

– Some of the writing is likewise coincidental

– Some of the behind the scenes stories are just weird
